A Warning About Unrecognized Chapters

We would like to advise all students and guardians that there are some fraternity and sorority organizations that wrongfully attempt to function on our campus that are not recognized by the University. You are free to join such organizations, but the University has no authority over these chapters and does not sanction their activities on or off of campus.

Non-recognized fraternities and sororities at the University of Delaware include:

Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE)
Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT)

The University of Delaware does not advise nor control the actions of these groups. These non-recognized chapters may have a high number of hazing incidents throughout the initiation process. Students have reported being threatened by members of some of these chapters for wanting to leave the new member process or for wanting to report the actions of other members to the University Administration. Many times the National Organizations of these non-recognized groups choose not to acknowledge the University's concerns or to take action against their former chapters.

Please refer to this link for information from the University of Delaware regarding unauthorized or "underground" chapters. Information adapted.
